iPad & iPad 2

Reader Plates for the iPad™ is fast and very easy to use. It provides fast access to approaches, arrivals, departures, airport diagrams, plus enroute and sectional charts. It even has a tab dedicated to your own documents, which is great for checklists. One touch switches between an approach, arrival, departure, airport diagram, enroute chart, or your own checklist.

Assign departure, destination, and alternate airports to the color coded tabs for instant access. Last minute approach changes are no problem-- simply tap the Approach button and you're presented with a list of all the approaches for that airport. Touch the one you need to instantly display it. Each plate is automatically expanded so that the portion inside the frame is displayed as large as possible without scrolling. These views of most plates are larger than actual size and are very readable.

Procedures, charts, and airport information for the entire U.S. is divided into nine regions that can be downloaded and updated independently. Just select the regions you'll be traveling through and touch the Update button to download all the approach procedures, enroute charts and sectional charts that cover those regions. It's about as simple as can be. And one glance at the Updates tab tells you if you have all the current charts you'll need.

Reader Plates for the iPad Features:

Instant access. Familiar colored tabs provide one-touch access to procedures for your departure, destination, and alternate airports. Each airport tab includes dedicated buttons for arrivals, approaches, departures, and the airport diagram. One-touch switches from your arrival procedure to your approach, then one more touch switches to the airport diagram. Last minute approach change? No problem, tap the Approach button and one touch selects a new approach from the list. It's easily done in less than two seconds. Plus enroute and sectional charts are also just a single-touch away and display almost instantly. And there is a tab for your own customized PDF documents that is great for instant access to a checklist.

  • Three familiar colored tabs mark departure, destination, alternate airports, and an extra airport tab is available for whatever your mission requires.
  • One-touch switching between arrival, approach, enroute or sectional chart, airport diagram, or departure.
  • Alternate minimums, Takeoff minimums, Radar minimums, Hot Spots, LAHSO procedures, and the A/FD page are all available for quick access via a dedicated button at the bottom of each Airport tab. Icons for each are displayed if applicable at that airport.

"Better Than Seamless" charts. Imagine cropping the margins and carefully aligning every chart on a large wall. Then imagine the wall has the magical ability to instantly bring whatever chart you touch to the foreground so you can see what was behind an overlapping chart. Finally imagine touching the chart again makes the margins reappear so you can see the Effective Dates and all the special airspace data that is only listed in the margins. That's what you can do with Reader Plates charts on the iPad. You get all the benefits of seamless charts and you have all of the information available on every chart.

  • High Altitude Enroute, Low Altitude Enroute, WAC, TAC, and Sectional charts for the lower 48 states combined into moving maps.
  • Search for Airports, Navaids, & Waypoints with any portion of the identifier, name, or city and jump to them on the map.
  • One-touch "In View" searches for an instant list of Airports, Navaids, & Waypoints on the areas of the charts currently visible.

Visual Hazards. Visualize routes past see-through chart overlays. Color coded AIRMETs, SIGMETs, TFRs, and "Worst-Case" TAFs can be superimposed over either IFR or VFR charts to provide an easily interpreted picture of potential hazards. Then just touch a point on the map to display detailed info on all the overlays affecting that location. (Hazards are updated twice per hour when a Internet connection is available.)

Approach Fix Overlays. See how the selected approach fits into your route and the surrounding airspace. Fixes for many approaches, arrivals, & departure procedures can be displayed on top of the IFR enroute and VFR charts. The fixes are valid drop points when dragging route lines, and are colored to match the Departure, Destination, Alternate, and extra airport tabs.

Draggable route lines & flight planning. Create new routes using arrival & departure codes, Victor & Jet airways, or Q & T routes. Touch any point on a route line to insert a waypoint, or drag existing waypoints to adjust routes. Time enroute and fuel burn estimates are automatically updated based on winds-aloft and your own aircraft performance profiles. Select from a stored routes list to reload route waypoints and instantly setup tabs for the departure, destination, and alternate airports.

Fast, simple updates. A single glance at the Updates screen is all it takes to be sure you have current plates and charts. When it's time for an update, just select the regions you need and tap the Update button. Every approach procedure, enroute chart, WAC, TAC, and sectional that covers each selected region will be downloaded to your iPad so that it is accessible without a Internet connection. And updates are F.A.S.T-- only changes since your last update are downloaded to drastically reduce the time spent downloading.

  • All data is highly compressed so that only 5 GB is required for all U.S. approach procedures (including Alaska & Pacific) and all enroute, WAC, TAC, & sectional charts for the lower 48 states.
  • Downloads are divided into the nine FAA regions: Northwest, North Central, East Central, Norteast, Southwest, South Central, Southeast, Alaska, and Pacific.
  • Updates are distributed through a high-bandwidth, low-latency Content Delivery Network for fast downloading.
  • Cycle updates include only the changes since your last download (up to six months), so less time is spent downloading.
  • All procedures and charts for each region are downloaded and stored for use without a network connection

Complete and always accessible. Downloads include all 13,000+ SIDs, STARs, airport diagrams, minimums, approaches, legends, and full Airport/Facility Directories with supplementals for the entire U.S. including Alaska and the Pacific. IFR High & Low Enroute charts and VFR WAC, TAC, & Sectionals are included for the continental U.S. A paid subscription is required for downloading updates, but once downloaded there is no lock-out. All downloaded procedures and charts are always viewable regardless of effective dates or subscription status. Plates and charts are marked expired when no longer effective, but are viewable until replaced with newer versions.

  • Alternate minimums, Takeoff minimums, Radar minimums, Hot Spots, LAHSO procedures, and the A/FD page are all available for quick access via a dedicated button at the bottom of each Airport tab. Icons for each are displayed if applicable at that airport.
  • Airports, Navaids, and Waypoints are all searchable by name, city, identifier or any portion thereof.

Sharp images that are easy to read. The default approach plate view is larger than life yet shows all the information you're likely to need without scrolling. And the text is still crisp and clear when zoomed to more than 2x actual size. Plus a single touch switches the entire display to night mode with white on black maps and darkened tabs and menus.

  • Approach procedure footers with amendment numbers, dates, and airport latitude/longitude can be displayed with a quick swipe to scroll down.
  • Pinch to zoom approach plates and charts.
  • One-touch Lock button freezes any view and ignores accidental touches until unlocked.

"Weather To Go." Current METARs, TAFs, and Airport NOTAMs for the entire U.S. are downloaded twice per hour (when a Internet connection is available.) And because the information is stored locally, the most recently downloaded data continues to be available when outside internet coverage.

Requirements:

  • 16GB iPad or iPad 2 (3G or a compatible GPS is required to enable location tracking on VFR & IFR enroute charts)

"...absolutely fabulous. It's the best I've seen for the iPad in terms of ease-of-use, and it's intuitively obvious how to get to things."

-- Jerry Gregoire, Redbird Flight Simulations     (via telephone January 2011)

"Wow, truly an amazing job on your iPad app!! Since getting my iPad I've been using [__________], which is very well done, but I have to say that your entry into the iPad arena is outstanding. Nice job having everything we need just a click away on the tab or referenced from the "airport" page. Can't wait to try it all in the air in a few days. And thank you for making it possible to be able to use your service on my Sony and iPad for the same subscription cost. Very well done...way to go!"

-- Van Gurley     (via email December 2010)
